End-Of-Season Sprayer Maintenance

posted on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 in Blog

The end of the spraying season is the best time to prep for next year's season. Take the time to look over your machine and note things that caused problems during the season, then get it ready for the upcoming sub-zero temperatures.

Inspect

  • Check wiring for routing, protection and proper connections.
  • Inspect hydraulic hoses for wear and consider replacing excessively worn hoses.
  • Check lighting to make sure it is functional for both roadway and in-field operation.

Maintain

  • Remove end caps and flush boom section.
  • Clean nozzles and check for wear. Use an air compressor to clean nozzle orifices.
  • Grease all service points after cleaning.
  • Replace missing or rusty hardware and fasteners and make sure they are properly tightened.
  • Replace damaged or missing decals and safety signs.
  • Touch up chips, scratches and rusted areas with appropriate protective paint.
  • Adjust breakaway tensions.

Winterize

  • Clean the machine thoroughly to prevent premature rust from crop protection chemicals.
  • Give the cab an end-of-year cleaning.
  • Flush liquid systems with water and cleaning agent.
  • Put anit-freeze solution in tank using a 50/50 mixture of propylene glycol and water.
  • Accurately inflate tires according to manufacturer recommendations for storage.
